CHICAGO. HARBOR COUNTRY. BEYOND.
It all started when…
Chicago is where it all began. 850 N. Lake Shore Drive is home to one of our design studios, just blocks from Michigan Avenue. For our team it’s a city the inspires us every day. A place filled with friends, family and colleagues that support and nourishes our souls.
Our second home and primary design studio is located in Michigan’s Harbor Country. Our love for this home-away-from-home started many years ago, idyllic sunsets on the shores of Lake Michigan with our sweet home Chicago in the background. It is an incredible place with a vibrant art and antique scene, as well as a great sense of community and design-minded folks who come to get away, then stay because it becomes a part of them.
Palm Springs, with its history and strong design community has always captivated our attention. A natural place for Susie and our designers to gravitate toward. A relaxing place filled with amazing architecture, landscape, and Mid-Century modern design and more.
We’re thankful for this trio of destinations and locations throughout the United States that provide us amazing design projects and endless possibilities to create with you.
Susan Fredman, Principal Designer
Susan (Susie) Fredman founded her namesake interior design firm, Fredman Design Group, over forty-five years ago and soon thereafter added Stone’s Throw Building Services and Fredman Home Stores to her business portfolio. She recognized the opportunity for her clients to reap the full benefits of her design expertise, relationships with contractors, vendor partners, real estate professionals, and a multitude of design and building resources.
In recent years, Susie contemplated retirement but for those who know her that was hard to imagine. Ultimately, Susie simply decided she was not done yet and Stone’s Throw Interiors was reimagined.
Today with her inspired studio team, Susie continues to love what she does and brings passion to every project she undertakes. She believes interior design is like a painting with all of the layers that go into the creation. She is a strong believer in life-long learning and that continues to manifest through her designs.
Susie's philosophy remains constant - design shapes the way we live and we shape those designs.
Lonnie Unger, Senior Designer
As one of the first designers and leaders at Fredman Design Group for over 35 years, Lonnie was an integral part of the firm’s growth at all levels. The decision to join Stone’s Throw Interiors was an easy one.
Lonnie has worked for residential and commercial clients across the United States and takes pride in designing spaces that are not only fresh, but also relevant to her clients’ needs. For Lonnie, meaningful design is about knowing who your clients are and understanding how they want to live.
Her projects have been published in several regional and national publications including the Chicago Tribune, Showcase of Interior Design, Spectacular Homes, Woman’s Day, Chicago Home + Garden and more. She is also the recipient of numerous awards, including several from the American Society of Interior Design (ASID). Lonnie’s energy and love a life is contagious, as her long-standing clients can attest to wholeheartedly.
Andrew Schorr, Design Director
Andrew first worked with Susie at Fredman Design Group after graduating with his Masters of Art Degree in Interior Design in 2017. Prior to earning his design degree, he enjoyed a successful, 25+ year career in hospitality including hotel, incentive travel, and special event destination management. While in graduate school, he gained experience with the Bright Group Design Showroom in the Merchandise Mart, Handman and Associates, a luxury residential design firm, and the Gettys Group which specializes in hospitality design.
In 2019, Andrew joined Susie and Lonnie to fully launch Stone’s Throw Interiors because of their shared vision for design’s impact on people’s lives. He is diligent and passionate about uncovering a client’s design intention to discover and explore the possibilities for each project. His interest in materiality, art, architecture, and love of life inspires his design approach.
Amanda Zitlin, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER & SENIOR DESIGNER
Amanda was destined for design and has been professionally designing interiors for 14+ years. Her mother, Susie Fredman, had an immense effect on her love for, and pursuit of, design.
She studied Interior Design at Harrington College of Design and graduated in 2011. Her approach to design is, well….practical. It’s key for Amanda to know how clients hope to function in their space and how they want to feel when they walk in. She uses different materials and design elements tailored to each client’s lifestyle. Amanda's favorite aspect of interior design is playing with textures and patterns to create endless combinations that make every client experience unique.
Amanda’s work has been published and recognized with ASID nominations over the years. She received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Warming House Youth Center in Wilmette, IL (2012) and volunteers with Designs for Dignity.
